Case Study – PROJEKT OBERHAUS, FABW 2024
A one-man-band sports documentary production
A season documented – For an entire season, I followed the BADEN VOLLEYS SSC Karlsruhe during their debut season in Germany’s top volleyball league, the 1st Volleyball Bundesliga (2023/24).
From concept to final film – The documentary was fully developed, directed, filmed and edited by me – taking the project from the initial idea through production to the finished film.
Close access and authentic perspectives. – Working independent allowed me to build a close relationship with the players, coaching staff and fans. This approach created an intimate and authentic look behind the scenes of the newly promoted Bundesliga team and the challenges of competing at the highest level.
A refined cinematic look – The documentary was filmed on two Sony FX3 cameras and a Panasonic GH5 paired with an Atomos Ninja V. After the initial edit, the log footage was carefully graded in my grading suite to create a consistent cinematic visual language.
Reaching the right audience – The documentary was released exclusively for one year on DYN, the sports streaming platform broadcasting live matches of the German Volleyball Bundesliga. Since October 2025, the film has also been available on the YouTube channel of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.

High-end sports storytelling for social media delivery
Freelance Cinematography – As a freelancer for the agency Apollo18, I worked on behalf of the Deutscher Turnerbund (DTB) during the European Gymnastics Championships in Leipzig.
Capturing moments that matter – From qualification rounds to medal ceremonies, the focus was on capturing the most powerful moments of the competition — from outstanding performances to the emotions behind them.
Authentic athlete perspectives – I recorded emotional athlete interviews directly after competition in the mixed zone, capturing immediate reactions and personal insights moments after their performances
Social content with editorial approach – Together with gymnast Meolie Jauch as host, I contributed to the DTB’s Instagram Reel coverage, creating dynamic and engaging short-form content for the event audience.
Fast turnaround. Seamless workflow. – The footage was delivered directly after production to the editing team, enabling fast publication during the ongoing championships.
Team production at scale – Working alongside a team of experienced videographers, we created a coordinated production workflow to cover one of Germany’s biggest gymnastics events from multiple perspectives.
